A Recusant Prayer

Jesu, Son of David, have mercy on me, and of thy great pity and charity remember me among the whelps that expect and beg under thy table for one crumb of grace from thee. O Lord my God, let thy truth, and not the blindness of my own ignorance, speak to me. Speak, Lord, for thy servant heareth, or at least desirth to hear thee. - Dame Gertrude More, d. 1633
